Personal Biography

Born on June 25, 1943, in Phillips, Texas, Stephen Lee Seaton grew up in a family with his parents, Jack and LaMaria, an older brother, Michael, and a younger sister, Maribeth. The family moved to Marion, Kansas in 1948. The county seat of Marion County, the City of Marion had population of 2,200 . Jack owned a plumbing business. Lee stopped using "Stephen" in grade school because he liked "Lee" better.

The family moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 1958 in order for Jack to attend Kansas State University to study electrical engineering. He graduated in 1961 and took a job with North American Aviation in California. Lee started college at Kansas State but rejoined the family after he was asked to pay out-of-state tuition.

Jack died in 2003 and Lee’s mother still lives in Southern California. His brother, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, lives in Virginia, and his sister lives in Visalia where she is President of a gourmet food company.

After the family moved to Anaheim, California, Lee took a job as a mail clerk in a large aerospace firm and supported himself as he took night courses at Fullerton Community College, earning an Associate of Arts degree. Lee then took his B.A. and M.A. in Political Science at California State University at Fullerton. He continued his education at the University of Hawaii, earning a Ph.D. in Political Science in 1971.

After teaching at the University of California and Bowling Green State University, Lee entered the electronics business as a computer specialist. Lee retired as a senior manager with the Hewlett-Packard Corporation in August, 2000. Lee worked in the non-profit sector for the Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency from 2001 to 2007.

Lee and his wife Marilyn moved to Angels Camp in 1999. Lee and Marilyn Seaton have been married 23 years. They have no children. Both were raised Presbyterian and are current members of Foothill Community Church where Lee is an elder. Marilyn holds a B.A. and M.A. in Home Economics from San Jose State University and a M.B.A. from the College of Notre Dame. She has served Calaveras County as a Library Commissioner.

In his spare time, Lee enjoys fishing, cooking and playing golf.
