Earth Day I
spoke at the local celebration of Earth Day on Sunday (National
Earth Day is April 22). Utica Park is an exceptional location
to talk about planting a billion trees -- near the center of the
Park is a large redwood. It was planted the
local scout troop back in 1928. Donated from the Calaveras Big
Trees, it has grown into a true giant. That date, 80 years
ago, should remind us that our community has worked to enhance the
environment for generations. The recently installed plaque is
a small token of the community's appreciation.
Earth Day 2008 is simply another public acknowledgement that we all must taken responsibility for our planet -- it's the only one we have. Calaveras resident, Dr. John Adams quotes Buckminster Fuller "there are no human passengers on spaceship Earth; everyone is crew." Please share your views with me at "Write Lee". |
