About District Four

Walking the District

I've been walking door-to-door to introduce myself to District 4 voters.  Meeting people face-to-face is one of the real joys of running for public office.  In many cases, I have been renewing acquaintances; in others, it has been a first meeting.  It's notably that everyone has been welcoming.  Common courtesy is alive and well in District 4!

Listening to the people, I hear that they are concerned about basic services, from endlessly barking dogs to changes in fire protection.  They have problems getting solutions from the County government.  In many cases, they say that they just cannot get answers.  Blocked culverts have been mentioned repeatedly.  These are not big ideological issues, rather they are the County's fundamental responsibilities to taxpayers.  It appears that the responsibility to serve the people has been getting lost.  Whether by mismanagement or in all the debates on "growth vs. no growth" and "Big Box or not", the level of service is not meeting people's expectations.

In my view, public service is just that -- serving the public.  In my business career, I learned that service is defined by the customer.  A dissatisfied customer has shopping choices.  A dissatisfied voter has ballot choices.  I am striving to bring a fresh choice to District 4 public.
