To me, a lot of political coverage has become sound bites -- the war, the economy, or whatever reduced to less than an audiovisual minute.  That why it is so refreshing to meet voters in person.  Our conversations are not scripted and may, in many cases, quickly leave the political for the personal.  Like my chat with a couple in the Murphy Diggins.  We talked mostly about growing up in and leaving the Midwest.  My Kansas hometown was and is still smaller than Angels Camp, but shares the core values of rural America -- love of country, neighborliness, faith and hard work.  The lumberyard's name said a lot about those values, "Cash and Carry".  Unfortunately, when taken to extremes a "cash-only" economy does not leverage its potential very well.  That’s how a lot of Midwesterners came to California; not seeking gold this time, but jobs and opportunities.  I say that California is a much richer place for their contributions.

Another pleasure of meeting voters in person is the opportunity to discover their talents and how they are contributing to our communities.  With his permission, I am adding a computer-enhanced self-portrait of Mr. Dean Eddy.

Dean’s talent with the computer photo editor is a welcome addition the Citizens4Seaton campaign.  Thank you, Dean.
