Take
it to Heart Day Volunteerism is one of the foundations of rural life. I grew up in a house that was the product of a barn-raising years earlier. My dad purchased the lumber and used it to build our home. Whether it was the Boy Scouts or the Old Settlers' Day, our community turned out for all sorts of voluntary activities. I see the same kind of civic spirit in District 4. The "Take it to Heart" foundation sponsored a "celebrity" lunch at Ironstone. Most of the candidates attended and sat at the table waited on by Tom Tryon. It was an opportunity to show that no matter what the competitive politics may be, we can come together in support of a great idea. Specifically, the foundation is targeting childhood obesity. I enjoyed the chance to put campaigning aside and simply contribute to the community -- we also got a healthy lunch out of it. After lunch, I had a campaign forum with the residents of Foothill Village. Foothill Village is itself a great example of the type of public/private partnership that creates good jobs while providing a needed community service. Talking with residents, it is clear that they appreciate the care and community that works together. If you would be interested in hosting a coffee klatch, please use the "Write Lee" link to arrange a date. |
