Italian Heritage Day 2008

There was perfect weather for the celebration of Italian culture in the formation of our community on Saturday.  The day started with a parade down Main Street.  I rode in the 1925 Dodge Brothers' fire truck along with DeWayne Brown, retired City Fire Marshall, and Dale Mendenhall, Chief of Police.  There was a good turnout for the event  with locals and visitors enjoying the fair and entertainment that followed the parade.  Supervisor Russ Thomas sang a number of songs including an operatic aria -- what a great voice.

Citizens for Seaton had a booth and it was really nice talk with many people.  I always appreciate it when individuals take the time to share their views on the campaign.

I also spoke to a number of the vendors who set up commercial booths to sell their handicrafts.  They recognized that Italian Heritage Day was a new civic event and that it would take a while for the event to gain more popularity.

Like most volunteer community events, it takes citizen commitment to make a successful event.  Certainly we saw a strong commitment to the revitalized Museum.

If you have not toured it recently, you will be in for a very pleasant surprise when you do.

If you would be interested in hosting a klatch (coffee, tea or soup), please use the "Write Lee" link to arrange a date.
