San
Andreas Day I spent the morning and evening in San Andreas -- for two entirely different reasons. The morning was spent at Mark Twain Hospital having cataract surgery on my right eye. Dr. Robert Haymond and his team were simply wonderful. The surgery prep was very professional and friendly; every step was clearly explained and went off right on schedule. The surgery itself is quite of marvel of technology, I was actually awake for most of the procedure. About all I saw were various colors and I could hear some machinery -- at least one of them talked! The whole operation took much less than a hour and I was up and out of the hospital just after noon. Having not eaten since the night before, I was hungry. So Marilyn and I went to the Pickle Patch for their great taco salad. After lunch, we went home and I got a short nap. After the nap, I was feeling so good that I went ahead to the Council of Governments evening meeting, back in San Andreas (aboug 200 yards from the hospital). You can watch the Council of Government meetings on CCTV channel 9. The meeting had some lively discussion of the application of the Open Meeting law regarding a proposed closed session. As usual, I was a strong supporter of openness in government; I feel that closed sessions should only occur when the law clearly authorizes them and the need for privacy serves the public's interests. I was very happy to hear that the new Public Transit buses might be available for the County Fair and Frog Jump this year. The City has agreed to pay for the buses during the event -- it helps reduce congestion and brings people to town; it also makes the fair experience itself more pleasant by reducing the parking hassle. Citizens for Seaton will have a booth in Mark Twain Hall during the Fair; please stop by to say hello. If you would be interested in hosting a klatch (coffee, tea or soup), please use the "Write Lee" link to arrange a date. |
