A Balanced Approach to We all want a high quality of life. For most of us, the quality of our lives is influenced by the quality of our own financial security, and its no secret that Calaveras County is being hurt by the latest economic crisis. The good news is we don’t have to choose between the open and rural lifestyle we all love, and a growing, sustainable economy. Please see my 10 step plan to revitalize our rural economy. Here in the Sierra Foothills, we know that there is more to life than money and politics. Our families, our heritage, and hopes for the future do not fundamentally rest with government. Rather we share a strong sense of neighborhood and community. Many of our social and civic activities are organized around volunteerism. Our volunteer fire departments, booster clubs, church, school and charities all enjoy the widespread support. The City Council recognizes our students' "Kindness Heroes" every year. In our heritage we find diversity that strengthens our appreciation of being Americans. The natural beauty of our environment makes us thankful and reminds us of our stewardship for future generations. It is vital that we remain mindful of introducing newcomers and visitors to our way of life, so that they can share and contribute to its continuity.
