The Fourth District in Calaveras County is a special place. With both the city of Angels Camp and the community of Murphys, it probably has the most developed economy in the County. At the same time, we still enjoy the open spaces and blessings of a peaceful rural lifestyle. In the years ahead, we need to keep that balance while we work together to resolve the serious issues that we face. We need to preserve the quality of life that keeps people here. Everyone who calls Calaveras County home has a stake in what we do in the next few years. I’m running for County Supervisor because I believe that changing times require a change in leadership. In my years on the Angels Camp City Council, I’ve been privileged to work effectively with my fellow Council members and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together. And as Chair of the Council of Governments, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made on transportation issues. Reaching out, finding areas of agreement, and working to build cooperative relationships has gotten things done and made us better off. Countywide, we obviously still have a long way to go. But I believe in my soul that the serious problems facing the County – the challenges to our quality of life, funding improvements to our deteriorating infrastructure, growing our economy, preserving our priceless heritage, and invigorating County Government while setting higher standards - can be overcome. Local government can work, and the key is leadership. We need leadership that makes policy decisions in the public interest. We need leadership that rejects cynicism and knows that we need good ideas from everybody, not just one side or the other. One thing is obvious: local government won’t work unless our elected officials are honestly committed to listening to the people. We live in a wonderful place. The choices we must make together in the next few years will affect our quality of life for generations. If you agree with me that this is a time for change on the Board of Supervisors, I hope you will support my campaign. Together we can keep the Fourth District a special place. Thank you very much, Lee Seaton |
